June 1976: The Syrian Army enters Lebanon for the first time in order to curb the growing Palestinian influence in Lebanon. The Palestinian population grew at a fast rate in Lebanon due to the fact that many refugees came to Lebanon to seek shelter from the Israeli military offensive in Palestine.
